IFLRY Video for Solidarity with Belarus

The International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY) is proud to present its newest solidarity action for the Belarusian opposition and civil society. In a short video clip delegates from several IFLRY member organization that attended the latest Executive Committee of the federation in Budapest show their support for a free and democratic Belarus. Thomas Leys, President of IFLRY, explains the message: “Last summer silent protests took place all over Belarus and people were clapping to express their solidarity with each other against the ruling regime of President Lukashenka. Today clapping in public can lead to immediate arrest. IFLRY applauds the courage of the Belarusian opposition and civil society and sends a strong signal of support to all those activists fighting against dictatorship and oppression.”

The personal messages in the video are expressed by delegates from Young Democrats of America (USA), Tineretul Naţional Liberal (Romania), Svensk Ungdom (Finland), Youth Movement for Rights and Freedom (Bulgaria), Juventude Democratas (Brazil), Armenian National Movement Youth (Armenia), Jonge Democraten (Netherlands), Yabloko Youth (Russia), Young Democrats of Singapore (Singapore), L² (Belgium) and Junge Liberale (Germany) representing more than 60 liberal activists attending the Executive Committee.

“IFLRY will continue to provide intensive support for liberal and democratic activists in Belarus through its Belarus Programme. We are convinced that Lukashenka and his authoritarian system will be replaced soon and that democratic forces will path the way into a better future”, concludes Leys.
